What is a Serigraph?

Serigraphy is a term describing the silkscreen process when used for fine art rather than commercial purposes. Serigraphs are produced in an edition, limited in number as indicated in pencil below the image. For example, the notation 31/375 means that this particular print is the thirty-first of 375 in the edition. By signing and numbering each piece, the artist is guaranteeing that there will never be more than 375 original serigraph prints of this design. All screens and any overrun prints are destroyed after production.

What is the difference in a Lithograph and a Serigraph?

There is an entirely different process used in making each type of image. A lithograph is a very high quality machine printed image made by using a 4 color separation process much like how the covers of any color magazine is printed.

A Serigraph is a silk screened image. With a Serigraph the original oil painting is scanned and separated digitally into each and every color found in the original. A separate silk screen is created for each and every color that was scanned. There are usually from 80 to 130 individual colors in the majority of quality Serigraphs.

Each silk screen is precisely placed over the Serigraph paper, and then by hand squeegee, paint for a specific color is applied. This single application of one paint color must then dry for at least 24 to 48 hours before the next color paint can be applied. It can take a Serographer up to 6 months to produce a single run of Serigraphs of the same image. Serigraphs are also produced in much smaller numbers than Lithographs, and they are costly to produce, and are as close to the actual original painting as you can possibly get. There is a very noticeable difference in the high quality of a Serigraph (technically original art) when compared to a Lithograph (reproduction).

Pristine Condition!

Our serigraphs of "The Book" are in pristine condition, never touched, never framed, and were part of the original Collection that Brett-Livingstone Strong placed up for collateral with the Bank of NY to secure a $36,000,000 Line of Credit for his would-be magnum opus - a 176' Sculpture entitled, "Angel of Freedom".  The serigraphs have been professionally wrapped and remain in the same climate-controlled bonded fine art warehouse that the Bank of NY engaged.

Certificate of Authenticity

The PSA/DNA Autograph Authentication Team has issued a certificate of authenticity for the signatures on our serigraphs.
